Dental Insurance That Covers Braces

If you don't have dental insurance that covers braces it can be a real shocker when you are hit with a bill of $2,500 to $5,000 for the braces that will give your child a million-dollar smile.

Get into the almost invisible braces kids prefer over ugly metal ones and the bill can go much higher.

But how can you possibly say "No, we can't afford it?"

The simple answer is you can't! Which is why so many families make orthodontic dental insurance a priority. Just imagine the cost if you have two or more kids who all need a little help to straighten out their smile.

And it's not just kids - many adults in these image-conscious times want to get uneven, crooked-looking teeth back into line.

Most company dental plans do offer orthodontic coverage that will help pay the cost of things like braces. However, if you don't have a company health plan you'll need to shop around for coverage.

You have a couple of options:

1. A regular insurance company health and dental plan.

2. A discount dental plan.

Though each operates differently, you pay a premium or fee for annual coverage and each plan pays a portion of the total cost of braces.

The significant difference with a discount dental scheme is that you must have treatment from a dentist that is on the list of approved providers - you can't just choose any dentist from the phone book.

One more thing: Many dental insurance plans have an annual or lifetime limit on orthodontic treatment - once you've reached the $1,000 or $2,000 or whatever is allowed, that's it! However, saving a grand or two on braces IS significant.
